Startup Weekend Orange County

Have you ever wondered what it would be like to bring together a bunch of bright, energetic and motivated people with the tools to create a new business? I had such an experience when I spent this weekend at the UCI Applied Innovation Center for Startup Weekend OC. I think that this is what Thomas Edison intended when he set up his invention factories in New Jersey. On Friday night, over 80 people gathered to learn the skills necessary to be an entrepreneur and start some new businesses. We watched 47 people pitch ideas and then everyone voted for their three favorite ideas. The 10 ideas that received the most votes were selected and the participants broke into teams around the 10 ideas. Bright and early Saturday morning the teams reconvened to bring the ideas to life.
